PACFA Reg. Provisional 28062

Q: What is Psychotherapy & Counselling?
A: "Psychotherapy is a holistic engagement that focuses on the mental, emotional, relational or spiritual health of a human being..." (PACFA, 2021). It tends to be a deeper, longer-term therapeutic approach, aimed at identifying the root cause of a person's issues.

"Counselling is a safe and confidential collaboration to promote mental health and wellbeing, enhance self-understanding and resolve identified concerns." (PACFA, 2023). Counselling may be shorter-term, focused on present day concerns.

Please see the following page by the PACFA Colleges of Counselling and Psychotherapy to find out more about these unique and distinct approaches to mental health.

Q: I have a mental health care plan (MHCP) from my GP. Can I use this to access a Medicare rebate for your services?
A:
Counsellors and psychotherapists are not currently part of Medicare, so are unable to offer Medicare rebates under a MHCP. However, you can still access our services privately. We aim to make therapy as accessible as possible, with fees similar to the out-of-pocket (gap) charged by many psychologists. We can offer private health rebates (see below). PACFA are currently advocating for the recognition of counsellors and psychotherapists under Medicare.

Q: Do you accept clients without a MHCP?
A: Yes, we accept self-referred or private clients. This means that you don't have to go through your doctor or other health professional in order to see us. Simply contact us directly to book your first appointment.

Q: Do you offer private health rebates?
A: Yes. If you have comprehensive or extras cover with Bupa, AHM, Medibank or the ARHG group that covers counselling, you may be able to claim a rebate on your counselling sessions. Please contact your health fund to determine eligibility and estimated rebate amount.

Q: Do you see NDIS participants?
A: Yes, if your NDIS plan is self, or plan-managed.

Q: What is Telehealth? What are the benefits?
A: Telehealth refers to online sessions conducted via video-conferencing software which meets strict security, privacy and confidentiality standards. We use Zoom, which is integrated with our practice management software, Zanda.

Telehealth provides increased convenience and flexibility with scheduling appointments. Video sessions enable you to join from the comfort of your own home or other place of your choosing, without having to physically attend a clinic. This is particularly vital for individuals located in remote areas, or with mobility concerns.
If you don't have access to the internet, phone sessions can also be provided.

Q: Do you accept referrals under Worker's Compensation NSW (SIRA)?
A: Coming soon. Please enquire.

Q: What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)?
A: An evidence-based therapy offered by many psychologists, CBT examines the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviour in response to situations that trigger a strong emotional reaction within us. By changing how we think and what we do, we can improve how we feel and our overall mental health & wellbeing.

However, this is often easier said than done. We know how difficult it is to change a habit, even when it is causing problems in life. Change takes time, persistence and patience and often involves an integrative approach.

For this reason, we offer a wide range of therapy approaches in addition to CBT, personalising therapy to your individual needs and preferences.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to supporting you soon.
